On Brisingr and the Name Choise
The choice of name for book three of Inheritance Cycle, Brisingr, was announced in the Algaësia Newsletter on January 2008. At the same time, the cover art was also released. This is what Paolini had to say on the matter in that message:
I am pleased to tell you that the title of Book Three in the Inheritance cycle is Brisingr. Sometimes one’s first thought is best, and so it was with naming this book. After many months of trying to sum up a complex story in a single word, it struck me that I had had the name all along. For reasons that will become clear when you read Brisingr, this title is perfect.
Brisingr is an Old Norse word for “fire.” As you may remember, in Eragon, Brom uses the word brisingr to start a fire. This is the first time Eragon hears an ancient language word, a word of magic. Later, when Eragon is cornered by Urgals in Yazuac, he shouts “Brisingr!” to great effect (see Eragon—chapters “Revelation at Yazuac” and “Admonishments”).
Both elements of the cover, the gold dragon Glaedr and the title, touch on Eragon’s inheritance. With his painting, John Jude Palencar has captured the dignity and wisdom of Glaedr, and Random House has again designed an awesome book cover.
Somehow I have the idea that we are going to read about some more fire magic in book 3… So let’s wait for September 20th - the scheduled release date for Brisingr.

However I was always puzzled why the second book was called “Eldest”. I didn’t think it had any significance or maybe I just missed something?
I hope Eragon gets his own cool sword now

Chris, in your puzzlement of the name maybe i can help. the series is called “The inheritance cycle”. Keeping that in mind. In the first book Brom gave eragon Morzan’s sword saying “you have more right to it than i”. In the olden times the inheritence of a father belonged to the “Eldest” son. in the second book murtagh takes back his inheritance

September 2nd, 2008 at 8:47 amand it was still bad. i then read eldest seeing as there was no point in reading a book if i already know all the outcomes and mysteries or whatever. Anyway i loved eldest and i only hope that they can produce a better film than the first.
well HMM.. I don’t know about the title unless he already has a plan for the next book. It would make sense to tell us the name of the 3rd and final dragon’s name that hatches during the book but i guess he may name the last book that.

firstly- i really dont think that christopher Paolini is gunna name the book after the green
dragon i mean what if it dosent even hatch!
secondly- i liked the movie yeah sure they left a LOT of stuff out but it was OKAY, now im not being mean but you pll can complain all you want and guess what its not gunna do anything!!

December 5th, 2009 at 8:59 pmI liked all the books that came out and the all the book are named great i just hope they make the other movies here soon before they can’t use the same people they did in the first. When they change charicters the movies are not the same with out the origanal people. so please make the movies soon and use all the origanal people that would be great.
