Will Eldest the Movie Be Made?

There is still no official word about Eldest being made into a movie. Before Eragon was released as a movie, it was said that it would be decided at least in part based on the success of the first movie.

The movie was unfortunately not a great hit and didn’t make as much as it should have, so the plans for the Eldest movie were postponed.

Brisingr will be published later this year. That will increase the visibility of the series again and may be a good time to announce the Eldest movie.

I believe Eldest will be made into a movie in a couple of years, but as I said, there is no official word on this. What are your thoughts and hopes?

    Clay Says:

My theory on Eragon is that they tapped Stefen Fangmeier to direct based on the great track record he has as the visual effects director for films like A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Bourne Identity, Saving Private Ryan, and others. He did pull off a visually impressive movie, but he didn’t seem to have the chops for making me care what happened to the characters.

Wily veterans like Jeremy Irons and John Malkovich don’t necessarily need a director to help them bring depth to a character, but I think the young leads could have really benefitted from a director who has experience with more than just visual effects.

    Anna Diller Says:

I agree with Clay. The Eragon movie was poorly directed. It was also badly cast. It was really disappointing to see it. I had such high expectation and was hugely let down. The young actors were too “Disney” like. The characters needed to be stronger not starry eyed wimps! It was more of a love story than Dragon Rider story. The dragon voice should have sounded more like a huge powerful being not like Beaver Cleaver’s mom. It’s really a shame that such an excellent story was chopped so badly and turned into a disney love story. If they make Eldest into the epic it could be and maybe remake Eragon they could have a real blockbuster!

I agree with Anna. Eragon was poorly made. I had high expectations when I first saw the previews, but I can’t even sit through the first five minutes of it without cringing. I liked the graphics in the very beginning and in the battle at the end, but that was it. The characters were poorly portrayed, Saphira didn’t seem very….Saphira-like, and they seemed to have made a plot of their own for the movie. It more than slaughtered the book. It shredded it. If plans for Eldest go through, I hope they get better actors and better directors. Christopher Paolini deserves some of the best. I hope they remake Eragon and make it like it should be.

    Enya Says:

I agree. The book was already on the bestseller list. It was fine as it was. If it was kept true to the book the movie would have been a huge hit, and probably would have went on to follow in Harry Potter’s footsteps. Instead, some hollywood moran takes a story that is already hugely popular and thinks, oh I can do better. What the hell? What is wrong with that person? His job is to translate the story. Emphasis on the story translate. Instead he’s just another Peter Jackson. People have no respect for literary art. This guy could have made his career with this movie, instead he’s just some hollywood schmuck I have no respect for and will proabably never like. I also think Christopher Paolini should have taken a more active interest in the movie, and maybe they wouldn’t have buchered it so much. On the contrary, he probably would have signed away all rights, so maybe he couldn’t. I know that’s the reason why Robin McKinley has never had any of her books made into movies. They wanted to slaughter her books and change this and change that and so she said no. Mr. Paolini should be more careful with who he trusts his books too.

    Adele Says:

I think that the reason the first Eragon movie wasn’t a “good hit”, was because you rushed into it, kept out alot of important things, wich made it a big disapointment. But if you take a litte moooore time on the Eldest movie, it would be more satisfying. And dont skip the big things!

  8. 8
    Niell Says:

I agree with Adele. They rushed the movie making the length only 90min, but with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter they were longer than 150min so that they could have explained more to the audience watching, and they should have kept to the storyline of the book… and they should have given Arya pointy ears (that really irritates me that they didn’t)!

  9. 9
    Vrael Says:

But there’s no way their’ll make eldest, they didn’t do the first one right. First of all, they ruined the “Roran” backstrory, they didn’t mention the mourning sage or any thing about eragon’s back wound. Eldest, the movie, just wouldn’t work.

  10. 10
    D. Says:

They should scrap the first movie, and start fresh with the second. Get Peter Jackson and direct it more like the Lord Of The Rings movies.

  11. 11
    Galbatorix Says:

Yeah, they should get a new director and cast and just make the whole thing from scratch. There would be 3-4 movies. Just pretend that travesty they call eragon the movie never exisited.

  12. 12
    Cyanrave Says:

Well, I do believe this movie put shame onto all book-movies before it. Paolini should have seen this slaughter coming from the slaughter of “A series of Unfortunate Events”. Foresight on his part is lacked. However, a remake needs to be announced and done ASAP before book 4 (Yes, it’ll probably take that long) comes out. Eldest, however, cannot be EVEN FATHOMED before a remake is constructed, fixing many errors in it’s predecessor. I mean, c’mon, no Dwarves in Eragon, wtf is that? They are crucial. I could go on forever on issues with movie. Anyway, I don’t mind a 3 hour movie as long as it’s brilliant and makes me want to see the sequel. (Hence Lord of The Ring success even though they had long movies)

    saphira Says:

the movie wud hav been a huge hit if the BIG parts were not cancelled!!!both the books rock but the movie has left me upset…………but its ok…..eldest is even better…there i a gud opp. here!!!!

  14. 14
    Ender Says:

The eragon books are the best books i have ever read, they are described so well its like your part of them. The movie lacked everything i have seen in the books, everything from the above “arya didnt have pointy ears” to the twins and the dwarf king not being in the movie. im not too old, im 18 but i have to say that the eragon movie was one of the biggest dissapointments in my life! but if it was re-made and more time and care put into the new movie not only would i go to see but 1/3 of the poeple i know…

    marina Says:

Hi I’m brazilian and I’m so sory because i know that i’m not so good in english. But I would like to say that I love Eragon and I think that Eldest movie can’t be made because they DID WRONG THE ERAGON MOVIE, they didn’t included a lot of things that are very important. I realy love the book!!!

  16. 16
    tan Says:

Seriously, the movie didn’t follow the book at all, I thought it could be way better. They probably won’t make an Eldest movie cause the movie, AND game were rated “poor”. I was so disapointed when they killed brom, with the shot of durza, and didn’t like how they made it seem like arya liked eragon at the end. Alas, it is what it is, and I think brought the books POPULARITY down alot, which sucks because the book was the best book ever written! oh well

  17. 17
    Kiel Says:

Why t’a hell did they change story in the book for, just like thay cutted parts froom HarryP!That is really stinks because Eragon should more like an action movie, now is jusT TOO PK. Please if you people cannot make Eldest Movie better then please don’t, it’s such a shame…

  18. 18
    steve Says:

I too was very dissapointed with the movie. It was like watching Jurassic park without the dinosaurs

  19. 19
    AnnaFrancesca Says:

They completely wrecked the story with this film. They got most of the deatails wrong - even minor ones matter for fans, so they should have at least got that right. They probably wouldn’t even be able to make an Eldest movie - Katrina is vital for the plot, and where was she in Eragon? No where! They did everything completely wrong, and the movie was a HUGE disappointment.

  20. 20
    Dragongirl Says:

Seriously, that movie was one of the worst i’ve seen, and if they DO make a new one, no one will watch it cause the first one was horrible. Even if you din’t read the book, people thought it was horrible.

  21. 21
    siera Says:

the Eragon movie left out a lot of really imortant details, like the fight with Arya. i was so sad that the movie was horrible, i cried. i dont dry much. im a tomboy. but i cried then. that in itself says something

i enjoyed the movie but in the way that i would enjoy a crappy star wars marathon with some mates. not like i enjoyed the book. THE BOOK RULES!!!!!!! now i wont claim 2 be the hardest core fan ever, iv only read bk 1 3 times and the thought of braving the leanghths of book 2 again makes me tremble, (maybe in the summer eh?) but i was disappointed by the sub plots that the film lacked- i mean sloan wos killed making the telling of half of the next book impossible to tell hooray 4 paolini

  24. 24
    RB Says:

Look this is all that can be said to demeen the movie even more….IT SUCKED!!!! Saphira sounded to holsom, Arya didn’t even look like an elf as she was described in the book, no freakin dwarfs were in the movie, there were no twins, and they killed off the Ra’Zac!!! How they goona put Roran back in the movie when his whole mission in book two were killed off in the movie. Basically the movie shouldn’t be called Eragon cuz it was nothing like the book. If I was Paolini… I’d be one pissed off mofo.

  25. 25
    Saphira Says:

i didnt like the Eragon movie. I have always thought that the books were better than the movies and this movie proves it. I agree with someone who said earlier that saphira didnt look very saphira like. THis movie (not the book) SUCKED

  26. 26
    Bato Says:

the only way there could ever be an Eldest book is if they pretend there was no Eragon movie and make a new one with a whole new cast and a new director. I have a feeling that might happen one day though. because when the new book comes out it will undoubtedly breath new life back into the series and that will get people thinking about movies again. so keep your fingers crossed and your hopes to a minimum.

  27. 27
    Dragongirl27 Says:

shouldn’t Paolini have gone in and seen what they were making of it? Seriously, some movies like this one can be horrible. He should have gone in and told them to make it right. Gosh

  28. 28
    Paige Says:

The movie wasn’t half as good as the book. Not even half; probably more like 1/1000. I was extremely disappointed with the movie, and think that it should definately have a remake. There’s no way Eldest could be made a movie because of the way Eragon’s plot was twisted up. It took a friend of mine months of convincing before she read Eragon because she saw the movie first, and thought it was corny.

  29. 29
    Saphira_the_Sexy Says:

what u say is true. but the film never made it clear if he was killed. but he wasnt ment to be injured either. but yes the sub-plots in the movie were annoying. but Eragon does fall in love with Arya which is one of the subplots. theyve just introduced it a film to early. but eragone dus deserve a reemake. i didnt think the film was to bad until i read the book and then i almost threw the dvd i bought out. the movie is now attroscious. stefan fangmeier needs to be shot and fired. and the angela scene was SOOOOOO WRONG!!! though joss stone was ideal to play it. i hope they do a better job when, and if, they do the next movie. but it will have to be a different director.

  30. 30
    Globorous Says:

I agree with just about everything that has so far been said here. The Movie was ATROCIOUS! Basically, all they did was get one of the Best Books in the World, chopped it into tiny pieces, made a Rotten attempt at gluing it back together, then called it a Movie! If they ever re-made it, I think that they should not simply forget it was ever made, but Burn all Existing Copies! Honestly!

Books are BRILLIANT, though. Can’t wait till next comes out!

  31. 31
    JohnTheGreat Says:

    The Movie SUCKED *A$$*
im series it was so bad i nearly vomited
it was noting like the book at all, they raced through it and skipped tons of impotant details

I mean i guess it couldve been an ok movie if it wasnt suppossed to represent eragon.
Like if it was its own movie it would be ok but this…………

    i was really disapointed!
    :(
And if they want to make Eldest it would never work, they messed to many things up in eragon.

So either they quit and stop or they make a new and better eragon with a new director and cast and go on from there.

    Thanks for listening guys!
    Love the Books!!!!!!!!!! :)

  33. 33
    MurtaghRules Says:

I thought it wasnt that bad. I mean the fight wt dura and eragon were cool but the cast did miss a lot of the major parts. I cant wait till Eldest movie comes out. And Christopher, if ur reading tis dont miss the major parts!!! Like the training, Oromis and Glaeder, the battle, Murtagh Thorn and the part of Roran.

GO ERAGON AND ELDEST!!!!!!!! BIGGEST FAN

  34. 34
    DYINGTOLIVE Says:

I would just like to say that i work at a movie theater and nothing has been mentioned about an upcoming Eldest movie. If, however, they decide to ruin another masterpiece of a book, i hope they take into consideration that they cannot do a third movie. In the Eragon movie, they killed the Ra’zac, leaving much of the basis of Brisingr out of the question. Also, they made it look like Arya was leaving without Eragon because he just said his goodbyes and left.

  35. 35
    Michael Says:

I hope NOT! The first movie was HORRIBLE! It ruined the book…it was so different.

Either go back and make it right (like how the Hulk waited 4 years before remaking the horrible first movie), or just don’t.

The movie took place over a period of one day…WHOSE IDEA WAS THAT!

  36. 36
    THORN! Says:

I hated the way DURZA was abled to kill Brom whne Brom was able to kill one of the most POWERFUL Dragon Riders(Morzan) and I thought that the film was at the best of times AWFUL….
I hope that they remake it…..

  37. 37
    Dragongirl27 Says:

the movie could have benn so much better if they got the facts right, why didn’t they make brom die right?
and why was Arya telling Eragon to come to her? Seriously, ……it was terrible, why was angela in a hut on water? what the heck was that? She wasn’t supposed to be that younge was she? and where was solembum, I ask you? How can they make a movie without the cat who told eragon so many things?

  38. 38
    Travis Says:

I agree that the movie was terrible. where did the dumb director get that durza rides a fire dragon in the fight scene? they didnt even show terim! (i think i spelled that right) there are so many loopholes in eragon that they MUST redo the first one before they even think about making eldest!

  39. 39
    Naty Says:

There is no way they will even be able to make Eldest with the mess that they made of Eragon.

  40. 40
    Demasi Adomacho Says:

Naty, my respect for you after posting on this has plummeted.

  41. 41
    Bernard Says:

i agree, terrible movie made no sense and by the way wats with that big cloud thing durza rides? it’s a bad movie!!! and why is brom sp mean??? he’s soposed to be nice… soz i’m just angry
p.s ITS A BAD MOVIE (i just felt i had to say that)
    P.P.s great books though!

  42. 42
    Death Says:

So, if they do decide to create Eldest into a movie, how do you suppose they’ll accomplish it? They left several characters out of Eragon, that become main characters and have a large influence in the book Eldest? How are they gonna pull off, “oh well this guy actually appeared before the battle, but you just didn’t know it, and so here he is now….?”

  43. 43
    Chris Says:

I disagree with the part about Saphira. If you fools read the book, she’s SUPPOSED to have a kind voice. However, they didn’t put in the part about Elva or anything about Oromis(sp?). Not to mention Orik was never seen, nor was Katrina. The Ra’zac were made completely wrong too. And the Urgals didn’t have horns. Also, eragon was supposed to save Arya when she was in a coma/

  44. 44
    Chris Says:

Well they have made Eldest into a movie. you can find the teaser trailers on youtube.

  45. 45
    Sofia Says:

Actually, Chris, they haven’t. Those are fan-made teaser trailers that are just a bunch of scenes from the Eragon movie cut and pasted to make a trailer for a movie that does not yet exist. They cannot possibly make an Eldest movie without re-doing the disastrous first movie. I don’t even have a problem with the cast, Ed Speelers could be a great Eragon with some better directing. Get someone else to direct the movie and re-do Eragon, something they should consider doing with the fifth Harry Potter movie (which they completely slaughtered). On its own, like the fifth Harry Potter movie, Eragon could’ve been pretty good. But compared to the book, yeaaaahhhh right.

  46. 46
    Chris Says:

you know they can’t make a movie exactly like the book there is no way. None of the Harry Potter movies do the books justice. THey can easily make th second movie with out remaking the first. Take The Hulk for example they just made the second one but the first one was the worst movie I have ever seen and I think it should be remade. The thing about books is that the story I read will be different from the story you read because everyone inturprets it differently. That’s why you can’t compair a book to a mob=vie because they are NEVER the same.

  47. 47
    mourning sage Says:

the books popularity will be brought straight back up after brisingr comes out, the movie is almost funny to the multitude of fans of eragon out there because of how ludicrously un-like the book it was
this was not an eragon movie, it was a pussy little bitch of a boy trying to portray an excellent character with his pathetic “two drama class” acting skills
they should have done a much better job of saphira, most of the movie she seemed like an animal rather than the dragon she was supposed to be

    hence… the movie sucked arse

  48. 48
    bookworm Says:

i agree shapire should have seemed smarter and more cuter. i didn’t tottaly suck ass but it could have been wayyyyy better!!

  49. 49
    Sofia Says:

more cuter? The problem was that she wasn’t enough of a dragon. She’s not supposed to be a baby the whole time. They left out way too much of the book in the first movie that is essential in the second (and most likely third as well) book that they would have to introduce it all in the second movie which wouldn’t work out at all.

  50. 50
    taryn Says:

I totally understand where people are coming from however I must admit that I had not read the books before watching the movie, loved the movie soooo much that I just had to find out what happened next that I went straight out and bought the books and only then read the books. So I kinda said the whole way through…’hey! this never happened in the movie’…lol.
am personally hoping for a sequal though, yes, will be hard with all the missing parts! wander if they thought that thru before eragon?

  51. 51
    Elena Says:

I didn’t read the book even i didn’t know about it, so for me that didn’t read the book i can say that i liked Eragon, all though Eragon was made for the teenage ppl and it couldn’t be more serious, i agree that it was like a Disney…

  52. 52
    Alice Says:

Guys, get a grip. It’s Hollywood and there is no way they will remake Eragon (perhaps in 10 years). The cast wasn’t that bad. Maturity will fix some of the issues. I don’t know if Eldest can be made. They would have to make up back story to make up for the holes they left in the plot. I cannot fathom why they messed with the plot sooo badly, but they did. I’m annoyed that Eragon was made blonde and 17 when he was dark and 15, right? Oh well, I can over look that if they can figure out how to correct their mistake to the best degree possible. It will never quite amount to a legendary movie because Eragon the movie so creamed the book. Personally, I’ll stick to the book. Can’t wait for Brisingr.
By the way, I liked the movie Saphira better than the Audio tape. Just because I have a soft voice doesn’t mean my bite isn’t sharp!

  53. 53
    Renae Says:

I would love to see the entire story made into movies, but agree that to do so, the first movie NEEDS to be redone. I can understand not having time to put ‘everything’ in the movie, but for goodness sake don’t rewrite the story. I think the only things that stayed the same were characters’ names.

  54. 54
    Du Brisingr Edoc'sil Says:

I vote Daniel Radcliffe for Eragon. They screwed up SO many things!! I actually liked Eragon MORE than the first 4 Harry Potter books. However, the movie was outrageously bad.

  55. 55
    Dragongirl27 Says:

Guys..the actors where fine….the only problem was how they put the story together. WHy did eragon and brom kill the razac? WHy was arya awake? WHy the heck was angelas hut on water?…..They should redo the movie in a couple of years….if they do it like that then they will know whats supposed to happen…whos supposed to be in it…and HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER!!…..Yeah…they missed Katrina which is very important in the 2nd book becaus eits what keeps roran going. I bet the director didn’t even read the books…..Paolini should have gone in and taken look at how they they were making the movie…I would have.
But whats done is done…what the heck was durza riding? Black SMOKE?….ahhhh …oh well.

  56. 56
    Chilli Says:

Brisingr.net actually contacted Random House Australia who said that the movie was coming out late 2009. But when this website contacted Random House, it turned out to be false.

You can read more about it here:

  57. 57
    Another Guy Says:

I was very upset with how the movie turned out. It was like i was watching an entirely different storyline with the same charachter names! There were hardly any dwarves, Saphira breathed fire way early in the fight and possibly worst of all they didnt give Brom a beard!! I was honestly amazed that there were no copyright infringements with giving that movie the name eragon!

  58. 58
    Amanda Says:

I believe that Eragon was an excellent movie, i find the book more entertaining and i think there are a few things that wern’t in the movie that should of been. Buti do hope and wish they do a sequel and make Eldest in to a movie, i think it will do well and become very popular.
    Can not wait for brisingr.
    Lady Amanda

  59. 59
    Amanda Says:

..as much as i liked the movie, i will correct my self. There was alot in the book, that was different in the movie. Seperatly it was a good movie, but the story line should have been more accurate with the book.

  60. 60
    Thelasero Says:

*sighs* seriously… the mmovie just sucked. Go grab the cast from th lord of the rings, come back and maybe we’ll have something…

  61. 61
    Cassie Says:

I thought Eragon was a pretty good movie, despite its differences from the book. Eldest is a better story and more in-depth than Eragon, I think, so I bet it would make a lot of money in theaters. Hopefully it will be made into a movie, I would definitely go to see it more than once!

  62. 62
    Mango Says:

k, in my opinon, the movie was fine, it shouldnt be called eragon b cause it wasnt. considering half the plot 4 eldest was destroyed,( no katrina, or scar, killed ra zacs no dwarves, arya all wrong; round ears, not to metion she tells eragon that shes princess, we dont find that out till eldest!) we’ll have 2 wait 4 a remake in a few years b4 we can c eldest.

which suks cuz da books rok

( lol, im on a psp & this took 4 eva 2 type!)

  63. 63
    bob sagget Says:

I think that if they are going to make a movie they need to make it soon because i started this series in eighth grade and am now a junior i took three years for the third book to be published you can’t take that long to write a book especially a series like this. after such a long time of waiting many people are probably less interested in the third book. If J.K Rowling can write a series as involved as harry potter with books coming out about a year after each other i think he can to it will definately help keep his audience more interested and will help the movies be more succesful he wrote eragon at age eightteen for pete’s sake why did it take so long to write brisngr? and as for eldest the movie they would need to do a heck of alot better on it than they did on eragon. They definately screwed up on eragon by leaving out key elements that come into play in the second book like elva? i will admit it wasn’t that significant in the first book but it is in the second. If they were going to make eldest into a movie they should have done it awhile ago because now that it has been so long since eragon came out those who do not read the books may not connect the two movies

  64. 64
    William Says:

I really enjoyed Eragon and Eldest to the point I’ve read both several times. I also enjoyed the movie, somehow. As long as you don’t constantly compare it too the book its an OK movie. The entire Brom thing annoyed me. Seriously Brom was able to kill Morzan after losing his dragon, while Morzan still had his. Durza would have been annihilated by Brom.

The subplots need to be added in for Eldest to ever work. The Katrina subplot can be added back in if the Raz’zak somehow come back to life. (Hey its a poorly made movie series, it could, and probably will, happen)

A sequel COULD work. A remake of Eragon would be better though.

  65. 65
    Anon Says:

i hope pray and beg that there WILL NOT be an Eldest movie. Eragon disgusted me so much i walked out on it

  66. 66
    Rachael Says:

They can’t make Eldest a movie! They left way too much out of the first one. They’d have to introduce all those new characters that they were too lazy to write into the end of the first movie. I thought the first one was awful and I have never seen the end because I just stopped watching.

  67. 67
    Nat Says:

believe me you should be glad u did not see the end it was so crap, They just finished with arya stroking eragons cheek and saying goodbye
a)Arya is supposed to have black hair not darn ginger,no offence to gingers
b)she never got that close to eragon in the book, she was always very drawn.

the only characters any good was Saphira and Brom even eragon was a blonde! meant to have brown hair!

  68. 68
    Sebastian Says:

What did they do to the movie?!? They missed Terim,Helgrind, dwarves,Arya looking like an elf, the raz’ac living and even those dreaded twins. If, their going to make a 2nd movie then they either redo the first or make a whole lot of adjustments and rename the series because it doesn’t relate to the book. Mr Paolini how can you tolerate the movie if it is so far off the plot of the book?

What have they done to the movie? Seb I agree! But you missed a few more stuff like Katrina, solembum,Eragon being saved by brother in Gil’ead, the HADERAC DESERT the big talk with arya’s mind and the two tests in Farturn’Dur.

i dont know if they should make eldest a movie if they do however, they need to take there time and not rush through it like they did with book 1. they left too many important factors out of the movie that are needed to tell the whole story. if they try and cram all that is needed to make up for the first movies lack of information than i dont think taht it will not turn out very well im re-reading the first book and cant wait till the 3rd book comes out, in spetember =) good job chris not so good job movie guys

Enya Says: (About the director being another Peter Jackson). Um Enya, Peter Jackson is responsible for one of the greatest movie making feats ever done. The movies he has made, are amazingly made and Eragon was nothing like it so please do not EVER… EVER… EVER compare the two. Thank you.

  73. 73
    LittlWiseOne Says:

yeh ,well the movie was ok.but i thought the events should happen exactly the same as the book.the movie and the book are totally different and that is disappointing.so if they do make Eldest,it better be just like they have it in the book.

  74. 74
    Enya Says:

I agree that LOTR was a huge accomplishment…they practically took over the oscars…the visual effects were amazing and I own all the extended versions as well as Peter Jackson’s version of King Kong. However, somewhere along the way (two towers to be exact) he totally blew off the book and made up his own version of things. Return of the King was a mess. Return of the king was the shortest book in the LOTR trilogy, so tell me, why it is the longest movie? He just completely blew off the book and went on to make his own thing. Was it completely awsome? Yes it was, although incredably disapointing to the devoted fans of Tolkien’s books and that was why I compared it to Eragon. Both directors seemed to be caught up in the “hollywood glam” the “I have the money I have the power” and probably a lot of people pumping hot air into their heads which completely disallusioned them into thinking they could somehow “better” the books.

  75. 75
    Enya Says:

I would also like to add that Chrisopher Lee (Sarumon) is a huge and completely devoted fan of LOTR (and actually had the priveledge of meeting Tolkien) who reads the book every year. However, with the third book C. Lee actually BOYCOTTED the movie because of how different it was from the book. I also wanted to touch base on another point that another fan made about the cast from H.P. being cast into Eragon. I think it would be a great idea except for how old they have gotten now. Other then that not a bad idea. I think Daniel would be great for Eragon (if not for the age). I agree that without remaking the first movie, there can be no second movie. Nobody would be able to understand it! The book and the movie are just too different!!!!

  76. 76
    darth glaedyr Says:

Have you noticed that Brom says that once they are through Daret they are in the foothills of the Beor mountains, which he pronounces Boer?
I agree that LotR can not be compared with Eragon. Both differ from the book, but the difference is, The Lord of the Rings made it work, and the book could not in any way, shape or form, have been translated straight into film. No way. Tolkien himself said it.
Eragon differs even more from the book, despite the fact that the book would probably have translated quite well into a television series. Everything they added or changed works better in the book, and there are gaping, blatantly obvious holes that would be filled if it had stayed to the plot.
Not only is it the worst adaptation I have ever seen (with the possible exception of A Series of Unfortunate Events), it is a bad, bad movie in its own rights.
A remake of Eragon for television would not be a bad idea, however I don’t think Eldest would translate well to film- cinema or television- at all. There is too much fluffing around and talking and not enough action. Don’t get me wrong, I like the book, if possible even more than the first one, but I don’t think it would be a good movie or series.

I think the books are fantasy genius and I kind of wonder why the movie was made only vaguely resembling such a wonderful story.

    Nate Says:

i really dont have much to say about the eregon movie exept it sucked. i think the actors were fine but whoever directed had so much stuff that wasnt even close to acurrate Example: Eregons “father” was killed in the winter in the book but during spring in the movie also brom did not burn down eregons house the Ra’zac burned it
example 2: the Ra’zac ar dicribed as bird like not as creatures with moaggots crawling all over them
Example 3: Brom is supossed to die in the desert not in the dungeons
i could go on and on but that would take so long it would be pointless so just take my advise and recomend that if they dont take as much “creative licinsing” the movie will be way better

    bk Says:

Ok… Let me start by saying this: the movie was fine… i watched the movie before i read the book. However once i had read the book i was very angry at the stuff they left out and messed up… I mean seriously how the hell could they leave out the dwarves, and farthen dur didnt really look like the book made it out to be, durza’s dragon looking thing was an obomination to the story, whoever came up with that should be shot… Eragon’s hair was workable, i mean a simple mistake like that can be overlooked, but the absence of dwarves, no du vrangr gata, no twins, no katrina, dead razack, no desert, wrong time of garrows death, wtf was up with angela, and where was solembum? BLess the child argetlam? did they leave that out by accident or stupidity? what about the dragon keep, the giant jewel, ect… Did they even mention nasuada? what about hrothgar, orik, and the other dwarves… What about tierm, and the other damn citys they missed.
Ill be honest here, the movie was such a tragedy, such an insult to the book, they need to remake it. there simply is no way to consider the piece of trash they made as anything other then a parady to the real movie… they cannot hope to make an eldest movie from that trash. Also am i the only one who noticed how rappidly saphira grew. one second she was an infant, next second she was fully grown, what is that about? If they do remake it, the older version should be considered a parody… Let us hope that they do remake it, and this time do it properly. also concerning arya, i mean come on, they turned a withdrawn elf with black hair, into a human female who was all over eragon and had ginger hair, wtf was that about? I can keep going if you want… As for the third book, keep going man, i cant wait… I need something to read since there will be no more hp books… PS hp movies sucked in comparison to books:P LOTR=BEST MOVIES EVER MADE!!! they may have been better then the books, and that one counts as mine lol. This is bk over and out.

Hey, I love the series. But I think that they need to do a do over or somethin on the Eragon movie because it was nothing like the book. Well, some of it was. but not alot. but I would like to see the Eldest movie.

  84. 84
    Alison Says:

Well, the reason for Saphira’s heavy growing was because that there wasn’t enough time i dont guss. But i agree with u totaly. but thik about this okay. Directors are given a certain time limit, and a certain amount of money. they have to go by their budget you know? but same here though, I watched the movie thinkin there was no book. then I read the book. and i was like WOW! but you know, the saying goes. “Books always better than the movie” Take the Lord of the rings for example. they did a GREAT JOB on the movie. the movie flippin rocked. but the books were still beter. just remember BUDGET! it’s all about the $money$ They need to do it over and make it alittle more about the book. or make an EXTENEDED addition. but I thought it was really good

    hannah barz Says:

i was so frustrated after watching eragon the movie, i went home and wrote everything that was wrong with it. The result? four pages. not only are major characters left out, solumbum, the twins, katrina, etc… it was poorly cast, poorly directed, and poorly made. for this reason i really hope that they DONT make eldest into a movie because frankly, they aren’t in a situation where they can. Even my friends who hadn’t read the book complained about everything and wished they hadn’t seen it. also, tronjeim was totally messed up, nasuada? where are you. it made me sick. save us, don’t make eldest.

  86. 86
    Tanya Says:

Like most of you I hated the Eragon movie… I recall my first thoughts were that they skimped on areas of the move that were just as imortant as some of the effects. Even the costumes were horrible! It just skimmed the surface of the story line which in turn had no potential of pulling in the viewer. I recall reading the book and not being able to put the thing down because of all the little sagas; all chopped from the movie!
I think if they decide to make the move it MUST be BIG BUGET!! Otherwise, don’t bother!

Why didn’t Eragon get injured? Where was Oromis? Where were the twins? And why did Arya leave w/out Eragon at the end? They should make better Eragon movie no matter what it takes!

I read the book first but I was very young and didn’t really understand it. I saw the film at the cinema and thought there were a few stupid things but overall I liked it. I read the book again and thought, well this is definitely better than the movie. Then, I watched the movie again, and I was disgusted. I shall list the problems in the first few minutes of the film.
    1. Durza has blue eyes rather than maroon.
    2. The urgals are man sized and have brown skin and no horns.
    3. Durza is standing in the middle of the path and Arya doesn’t see him.
    4. Arya has ginger hair and is at the front of the convoy.
    5. Eragon leaves town the same day as finding the egg.
    6. Ajihad gets killed in the prologue.
    7. The varden were formed before the riders war.
    8. Eragon is blond.
    9. Both Brom (voiceover) and Galbatorix call Saphira’s egg a stone.
    10. Galbatorix looks old even though he became a rider at a very young age.
    11. Arya has rounded ears.
    12. Sloan is fat.
    13. Katrina is nowhere to be seen.
    14. Brom looks about fifty.
    15. Roran is blond.
    16. Garrow and Roran don’t find out about the stone.

    etc. etc. etc.
Mistakes occur at this rate throughout the movie, there is not a single minute in which there is not a mistake, even within the movie’s own world. Durza’s eyes are blue in every scene except one, in which they are amber etc.
No time to list everything so I shall leave you to find the rest.

When I heard that a movie was going to be made of Eregon I thought it was going to be a hit. But when i saw the trailer I began to have my doubts. When seeing the movie I realized they had made this movie way to Disney as many have said before me. There was no characters with distinct personalities. Instead they were all soft. They never really depicted how savage the Urgals actually were. There were also alot of very important missing seccens. I think they should have put the part in where Brom and Eregon came to a destroyed village and found people deadd and they get attacked by the Urgals.

    Era of the Dragons15 Says:

I personally thinl that the movie would have been better with slightly different characters and several directors. I think the graphics should be left as is and the actors cast as Eragon, Roran, Murtuagh, Brom, and the everyone of the Varden were fine, but they should have cast someone else as Arya. Liv Tyler would have been good as Arya because of her performance in Lord of The Rings and I believe that in Eldest, if they keep Arya’s character, they should use the actress who played Glaedear (I think that’s her name, anyways she’s Arwin’s grandmother, ya know, the blond elf lady) as Elva and get other elves from lord of the rings to play different characters. Just not to use too many of them because then it would be too Lord of The Ringsish and ruin the Dragon concept. Like maybe they could use Ashton Kucher as an elf and they could have used Anne Hathaway as Angela. I can think of plenty of famous midgets (Not trying to be offensive) that would make good dwarves too.

  93. 93
    darth glaedyr Says:

I didn’t like Liv Tyler’s portrayal of Arwen. I thought Viggo and her were the two actors that let the rest down. Bernard Hill, Dominic Monaghan, David Wenham, John Noble and Miranda Otto were the best actors, I thought, but none of them are suitable for anyone in Eragon. I liked Durza, Murtagh and Brom, although he looked much too young, but Eragon, Saphira, Roran, and particularly Galbatorix and Angela should definitely be recast and redesigned.
They should not use real dwarves for the dwarves. Like what they did in LotR, they should use regular sized adults and use editing techniques to get them right sized, and only use dwarves as the scale doubles.
But of course, Eragon was too much of a budget film to do that. Solution- get rid of the dwarves altogether. Yeah, that’ll work- not. So, of course all you have to do is make them manheight. If you listen to the commentary, you will find out much about how stingy and idiotic the director was. For instance, he refrained from giving the urgals horns because he didn’t feel like it.
And one more thing- why was Eragon 17 in the movie? He’s only sixteen at the end of Eldest, a year later.

  94. 94
    Jenna Says:

    the movie was disgraceful
ok ive read both eragon and eldest over and over so many times even before eragon came out into film i had read them…they left so many important parts out..roran just “left” didnt go somewhere specific so how will he know to come back? where was eragon’s scar on his back? BIG PART OF BOOK 2! pointy ears for arya? and whats with her acting as though she likes him? dwarves? were none existent…the baby girl that eragon blesses?
someone pointed out Saphira wasn’t saphira-like correct wasn’t what i expected at all…
    all in all
the movie was disgraceful the books were so much better my favourite books to read
    so
no they can’t make Eldest into a movie, unless they completely got rid of this movie and started from scratch..even then people probably wouldn’t want to watch it because of the poorly made Eragon
i guess Paolini didn’t really get a say in it as i reckon as the writer he would have said something about what they changed

I was disgusted in the movie. Every i know is always asking why i read the books, it’s a crap story line. i say: No! they just made the movie rubbish! the books are good! Anyway, i hate the fact that Arya is blond, and has round ears. i mean what the hell!?!?! and there and no dwarves, hello!? very important race! Escpecially if they wonna make Eldest later on, and no Isidar Mithrim. The killing of the shade was all wrong. Saphira has a too friendly voice. CRAP actors/actresses … couldn’t have gotten worse for the part. Saphira’s scaled are a greyish blue, not the brilliant sapphire blue they are supposed to be. Solembum wasnt in it, and he didnt give the advice, like Angela did. When Eragon and Saphira returned to the barn, Garrow was already dead, and the list goes on! I was VERY dissapointed in this movie, and i agree that there needs to be a remake with a BETTER cast and crew.

  97. 97
    disappointed fan Says:

i’m just going to piggy-back off of what glaedr said and add a few more things to the list that they f’d up. How the hell in the first place could they have messed up Eragon’s age in the movie and roran was not leaving b/c he didn’t want to get drafted in the army. And after they saved arya from gil’ead, there was nothing about them saying how they crossed the hadarac desert or going through the beor mts. It’s as if they teleported from one place to the other. Those are just a couple of many. All in all, if they don’t redo the first movie there is no chance in hell that they can pull off the second. by the way, love the books and can’t wait until the third comes out.

I love the books and the film was good apart from all the things they rearanged and missed out(coughKatrinacoughTwinscough). How can they do the battle in Surda if they make a second film without the Twins? I wish they hadn’t left out Jeod, I liked Jeod. I do like the film and it wouldn’t make sense for them not to make others but they’ve dug themselves a great big hole by leaving and changing so many things. Also I hate the way they did Angela. And where’s Solembum? He’s the one who tells eragon to look under the Menoa Tree, so again, great big hole. Other things they messed up, Roran leaving, the journey to the Varden, Saphira growing up, Arya(supposed to have raven hair not ginger), Orik, should I continue……

I agree with Tara; they left out so many parts of the book so why make a second movie if they’re just gonna do the exact same thing but more since Eldest is a bit longer? The only way that the producers would’ve been able to include EVERYTHING in the book is to make a t.v. series of it. Maybe have some episodes of parts of the book, and put it on a DVD and sell it later in stores. I don’ know if anyone will agree with that but I think that’d be okay.

The movie was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! I remember counting down the days till it came out, then when I saw it I was like, “that’s it?!?” They tore up the storyline so badly that it doesn’t deserve to be called Eragon. I am disgusted that they took such an amazing book and turned into such garbage. I am praying that they don’t try to make Eldest into a movie because they would fail. First of all, half of Eldest revolved around Roran, which can’t happen because they killed off the Ra’zac. Also, Eragon was never injured in the movie, which was the whole reason for his weakness in the first half of Eldest. There was also no sign that Eragon would be going into Du Weldenvarden to finish his training at the end. The whole thing is just bull and i sincerely hope that Eragon is remade. Only then can the series be continued.
Love the books though! Blow me away with Brisingr!!

Of all the things said before me, I totally agree with everyone. I can’t believe the movie cut out SO MANY parts!!! THey got all the character’s discription wrong, where was arya’s pointed ears? eragon is 15 not 17! Where did u get the idea that galbatorix was bold! There are so many errors in the eragon movie that it is IMPOSSIBLE to make eldest a movie unless they remake eragon movie which would be a public embarrassment. Did the director even TOUCHED the book? How can they say the movie the “BASED” on the book? They completely DESTROYED the plot. I am deeply disappointed and the only way they can make eldest as a movie is to remake eragon first with a DECENT director and CHANGE some of the cast.
I still cant believe they got everything from the book wrong… THE BOOK WASN’T WRITTEN IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE YOU KNOW!

I do hope that they have a Eldest movie. Even though they left alot of the book out in the movie of Eragon, it was still entertaining. You guys are just being too judgemental. I really wish that they make the Eldest movie because i bet most of you would watch it even if you didn’t like the first one. You would be intrigued to compare the movie with the book and ther are many people who haven’t read the book that can’t wait for the next movie to arrive in theatre’s.

  112. 112
    jimmy Says:

It is one thing to compare a great book and a good movie made about it. It is a totally different thing to compare a great book and a #&$%ty movie like Eragon. For example, Harry Potter 4 was a great book, and though much was cut out in the movie, they made it work. It became a pretty good movie. With LOTR, Peter Jackson completely went his own way with the end of the series, but he knew what he was doing. Thus it became a legendary trilogy. The director of Eragon DID NOT know what he was doing, and he clearly did not plan ahead. I believe that it was intentionally made to end there and not continue on to Eldest. Even if Eldest the movie was pieced together, no one would see it because everyone would think it would suck. If you are hoping for Eldest the movie, be prepared for a letdown-either because it does not happen or it just sucks.

  113. 113
    TheHappyGoomba Says:

will someone please get Peter Jackson as director?
or even Steven Spielberg? hahha, i think they’re well suited for epic films like this one, and like you guys all said, Stephen Fangmeiger should perhaps just stick to his “visuals” cause…man, that movie sucked. Keep Jeremy Irons, and John Malkovich, BUT i think, if this movie is to be “remade”, i suggest changing AJIHAD for someone else. Perhaps Samuel Jackson? Morgan Freeman? some guy that can take a serious role. i got really mad, AJIHAD was casted poorly.

  114. 114
    Arya Says:

    wow
i didn’t expect so many ppl to didlike the movie.
but i am one of them. i think the sepecial effects and directions weren’t up to standards. it was, unfortunately, a let down. i realised that later bcoz i became an Eragon fan after the movie came out…but i still watched the movie after i read the book.
personally i think Arya was casted really bad…she wasn’t even pretty, no offence to her.
and they didn’t really illustrate the great bond between Eragon and Saphira…it didn’t quite emphasise that their not just some play mates. i mean, after Garrow died, Eragon just told Saphira to leave like that!
even the Harry Potter films are becoming very low quality like that! those are serious let downs as well. sorry this is not related…but couldn’t help bringing it up….oh i just noticed sumone mentioned HP4….i actually think the movies went downhill from that movie precisely.
anyway, the Eragon movie had many errors which i can’t recall at the moment, but was really outraged by the whole presentation!
but i would still like Eldest to come out as a movie…just to increase its popularity. but on the other hand, it’s more complicated (the plot, i mean), so i guess if they actually don’t do it right, we are better off.
but i think as just a fantasy movie Eragon was fine…but the relation to the book wasn’t good. but then again, hardly any movie based on such books are comparatively successful.

okay, the movie was bad, and they will end up making a movie for Eldest later, however, one thing needs to be cleared up.
everyones whining about how Eragon didn’t get injured in the movie by Durza.
    HE DID.
Go back to the damn fight scene and watch when Durza flips over Eragon and slices open his back.
Sure, it was subtle and underplayed, but it WAS there, hence, Eragon’s trouble getting up “the morning after”
but, i do agree with everyone, as they get the general idea correct of book > movie.

  117. 117
    DuGataVrangr Says:

Honestly i think they can easily adapt eldest to match the first “disapointment”, even tho arya didnt have the pointed ears, remember in eldest when eragon is training how the morning sage told him that elves can change their apperance, whos to say that dont add a easy one liner?
Eragon: Arya, why do all these elves have pointed ears but you dont?
Arya: (just stares at him unspeaking)

then all he has to do is find out that she changed herself or something like that, some of the mistakes can be remedied, the rose stone that was broken by arya can be one of those things that all they haveta say is “during your battle a lose ball of fire hit it and broke it” therfor the promise can be made and eragon can fix it, no dwarves where seen fighting however and at the end of eragon arya was leaving to go to elesmera (pardon the bad spelling). im sure it can be remedied it will just take time and alot of patience

and to the above poster, at least we read, its not our fault you have a first grade reading level

    some say it was ok
    i guess
    no!
    it was not
i won’t go into it all again
    but
    make clear
they cut out practically half of the book
    then changed the other half
    :S
    idiots
    NEW DIRECTOR
    make it again different
who cares if its long like lord of the rings movies were
at least it will be good….
    i bought this movie
    i regret it
i point out everything wrong with it
    constantly
eldest cannot be made please dont
unless they forget about that eragon movie
    or remake it

    still

    Craig Says:

The first two books were awesome, it seems alot of the responders to this sight are young. I am 28 and love them. Ok so the Eragon movie sucked we can all agree on that. If and thats a big if, they make Eldest the movie the have to remake Eragon. My reasoning behind this is that, i think they would do right with Eldest and make it a long involved movie true to the book. If they do that however the Eragon movie won’t make any sense, to many details left out of it, so a remake of that movie would not only be justified but necessary for Eldest the movie to exist.

    Spoons of War Says:

Enya,PEter Jackson is a great director, so don’t spit on him. I would like him to direct Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr. LotR was a real epic series, and Inheritance could be the same.

  123. 123
    Spoons of War Says:

Sofia, Harry Potter 5 was a good movie and used what was important in the movie. Sure, it could have used some more in it, I was mad it was so short at first, but then when I saw it I was glad they left out the useless crap from the book. Not to say the books are bad, almost as good as Inheritance, but 5 had a bunch of useless stuff in it.

    theduck1980 Says:

To all those saying eragon needs to be remade… your dreaming. It would never work & no big movie studio is ever going to fund it.

Whats done is done. Perhaps they will make an eldest movie, but it seems more likely it would be low budget & probably even more disapointing.

Maybe there’s a better way… they could do a lengthy tv series. chapter by chapter perhaps. Starting with a run over the events in eragon that were left out, like eragons scar etc…

  126. 126
    Drea Says:

I’ve just seen Eragon and have never read the books. But seeing the movie (which I thought was very good,) makes me want to get the books to read just like the LOTR and Narnia movies made me want to read those books! Movies can be a great way to introduce someone to a new book series!

    Jessica Says:

I really love the inheritance cycle books, and was really looking forward to the movie, but had to leave like 30 mins into the film as it was terrible. I dont see how Paolini allowed this movie to be made as it missed so many fact as was so cheesy. NONE of the “actors” could act, and saphira was UGLY and grey, when she should have been beautiful and of a saphire blue colour.
So they cant possibly make eldest into a movie as they missed so many vital points in eragon, eldest would be a load of crap. PLEASE Paolini, dont allow them to ruin another one of your books.

    JO Says:

i’m going to be really blunt. the books were awesome, the Eragon movie sucked, really bad. it was probably one of the worst movies i have ever seen in my entire life. i can’t believe paolini actually watched it several times and said that he liked it.

  132. 132
    darth glaedyr Says:

Durza does stab Eragon in the back in the film. You will notice that in the bit that he does a somersault over Eragon’s head, he brings his sword down and slices Eragon’s back open. Eragon leans over forward with a grimace of pain on his face. The entire scene lasts about three seconds.
What I think is really sad is that the movie was made when Eldest was already out, so they knew what was important and deliberately left it out. And, half the critics in the world agree that the ending of Eragon gave the sense of being a big setup for a sequel, so I can’t see why they would leave out the details that would let them do it.
Overall, I would put him just below Michael Moore in a list of my favorite directors.

  133. 133
    quincy jones Says:

i agree with darth that they knew what needed to be put into the movie to actually make the second book, but i do also believe they did the best they could with the cast and crew of the movie. the movie had to be made to appease audiences everywhere and not just the readers of the books. if the movie was made for the book junkies it would be about 2 hours longer and it would probally not even be shown in theaters, just a straight to DVD movie. the problem was that when the movie came out, some of the parts of the movie left a lot of information out that would make the moviegoers confused, therefore the people who did read the books were dissapointed because it didnt live up to the expectations of the book, and the people who just saw the movie didnt really get what was truly happening to the characters they saw on screen

    Sean Says:

I totally agree with everyone who thought the movie was stupid. First off the dragon was just yeah i didn’t like it. The voice was to weak nothing like what a dragon should sound like. The CG graphics made the dragons look weak. It reminded me of the CG used for Harry Potter three’s Werewolf. It looked sick and weak.

    Reaper Says:

I could go on with endless adjectives for Eragon. Disastrous, cheesy, too short, wrong, -4 out of 4 stars, etc. If they changed a few names and the title, I bet no one would notice it was Eragon. Not only did they leave out half of the book, but the half of the book they did put in they got wrong! What with the whole Razaac being killed by Brom thing? Wrong! Helgrind even? Nope. Zarroc? Whats Zarroc? I didn’t know Arya was human, NO WAY!!! The shade doesn’t look evil, he looks like some hippy that crawled out of a pigs stomach. There were so many mistakes that I think they should scrap the movie and just make it over again or something if they ever plan on making an Eldest movie. There are too many things in the movie they didn’t even mention or messed their story line up on. I’d like to watch everyone’s confused reaction when Murtagh shows up. “Who is this guy?”,
“I don’t know, I think he was in Star Wars or something”
I think they should pretend the last movie was some sort of practical joke, and start over with a movie that has it right. I don’t care if it’s 3 hours long! Get it right! And if you don’t want to sit through a 3 hour movie, don’t go!

Paolini can’t possibly be happy with this movie!

to be honest with you i didnt see the movie cause i knew it would suck. the moment i saw who was casted to play who i was like what the @#$%. and i was right but the fact of the matter is eragon needs to be remade as a 3d animated movie ever since i saw beowolf i knew this was how eragon should’ve been made

That was one of the worst movies EVER!! it is a disgrace to Paolini’s books, the only thing the movie and the book had in common were the names! why was eragon blond? arya didn’t even have pointed ears! where was KATRINA??!!!etc.,etc.it would have been better if they had never made that sorry excuse 4 a movie in the first place!Shame on the people who thought they could do a better job than the author. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!Whenever I watch this movie I feel like ripping out my hair!!! and shame on christopher paolini for not being more careful about his books!!! the only way to fix this is to BURN&SHRED every copy and then make a remake with a different director. the books however are AWESOME!!

the movie was too short and left to much out was disappointed a lot. The books really are GREAT but the movie was not. They left so much out also if you have the moive on DVD then the deleted scenes show Katrina and other things but it is still not enough. I’m changing early points I have made bu still if they were to make Eldest into a movie..they would have to remake Eragon…it was … awful, disgraceful, and I still can’t believe they could do that to such an amazing book.

i agree with al of you guys
also did notice that they have pushed everything into one village/town/city? i mean eragon had is future told and was atacked by urgals in only one city that really sucked ass.
what also whas really weird (maybe i just missed it when it was showed)on the backside f the box you see arya and eragon using theyr magical powers together in al blue flash and i didnt saw it in the movie
i do not know if anybody already said this but the film eldest ( at least in holland )comes in spring 2009 or summer 2009 there are already trailers on youtube, just search at eldest

you guys the most weird about the movie was(like a lot of movies like HP ) it looked like it was only 3 days : day one eragon founds the egg. day two saphira hatches and is fully grown, garron iw killed and they reach the city. day 3 brom dies and he says they have to go te varden. day 4 they arrive at the varden and they fight. the end.
(i know i dident mention everting)
    that really sucked.

    bye

i totally agree with all of you. The book was great, and the movie a total fiasko. They missed major parts, the movie was too short. And the elf!! She was supposed to be tough!! geesh, what a movie…

  147. 147
    Bindi Says:

All of you are right..the whole movie was a drama, things wernt put together, and since when in the book did durza have a flying black “dark magic” as saphira put it in the movie. it would make the least of sense as a follow up, and they missed MAJOR parts in the movie.. even the guy who played roran, chris or joel egan.. forget the two of the brothers,, told me he read the book and did not entirely agree with the movie.. i am highly looking foward to brisingr i have no idea what will happen in it.. christopher Paolini.. YOU ARE A GOD!

    Lauren Says:

Hi! I actually really liked the film, especially Brom and Saphira. A film will never be a book (look at the Harry Potter movies - some really good characters but more in the thought of JK R than actually JK R - and some lets face it really trashy stuff in it (remember some fighting scenes)). The film is far too short, though. I would really like to see a directors cut. I suspect some of the missing figures would actually turn up. I agree Eragon and Ayra could have had more depth - well - young actors need a bit more guidance. The 3rd HP movie shows far deeper emotions of the young characters than any other. A shame that Curazon did not want to carry on directing HP. Anyway, a second stab at the next book with the same actors and more depth to the story would be really good, I think!

I’m agree with you guys, I too expected something more “Lord of the Rings” like and i was in shock when a saw the movie… I can’t believe they even dare change like that and where was Solembum?. Eating yummie fish or something xD? They really change everything and i hope they don’t screw up eldest with a poor movie…

    EveryBody Says:

It would have been a good movie if it didn’t have to follow any plot or storyline. It missed out on all the best parts, the dwarves were as tall as the humans, and it was dull after reading the book. Where was Katrina? Where was everything else they missed. They missed so much!!! How the heck did they think of a way to screw it up so much? Man, It didn’t show andthing about Roran, Saphira chose her own name and stuff, Eragon didn’t hide her, Brom burnt the house, the war at Eragons home didn’t happen, Brom died way differently, we didn’t see any magic or sword fighting lessons except for the first stupid one, brisingr the fist time was different, they didn’t use it a second time, Brom was hurt coming out of the prison instead of Arya, Eragon didn’t find out Brom was a dragon rider like that, and Eragon killed the shade soooooooooo differntly it was stupid. He killed it sort of on Saphira, and Arya and Saphira didn’t break the globe. Those are the main thing I noticed that were wrong. The biggest fault though, It wasn’t action, it was sort of like a love story from Disney for kids. That was the biggest insult for Christopher Paolini to possibly get. I loved his book.

  153. 153
    EveryBody Says:

Sorry, forgot about the elf, she didn’t look anything like what they were described in the book. She was sort of scrawny, weak, and not much better than Eragon at fighting. Plus, she never pulled her hair back and I thought she would have black, sort of straight hair. Also, as many of you said, It was far too short and it has to be remade if they want to make Eldest into a movie. It would take me another week to write all of the other mistakes this movie made

  154. 154
    LeeLoveLo Says:

Oh my gosh! You people are insane! THe Movie was AWESOME!!! JK the movie was ok but then again i have never read the books. I guess i will just to see how bad the movie really was. My sister is a huge fan and has read the books like three times each atleast. She only watches the movie because she thinks Ed Speleer (or whatever his name is) is cute. I agree. I think they casted the movie based on how handsome or pretty the person was, not how good they were at acting. Oh well.

  155. 155
    Tilly-Anne Says:

i’m not so sure how i stand on this matter. I mean, because so many people at my school had been reading the book, i didn’t really like it (i had just stopped reading long books back then) and i didn’t want to watch the movie because i hadn’t liked (read) the book. But when my dad borrowed it from the library i reluctantly watched in when i got sick (last resort >_<) and i did like it… although i didn’t like the fact how the deleted scenes had been deleted. the day after, i went to camp and got into the same cabin with two of my friends and two other girls. (so that makes… 3 people out of 4 who liked the book in the same cabin…) we wouldn’t shut up about the book as i had brought it along. i had also brought the movie and we totally shunned it. it was way off base from the book, yet they decided to delete the scenes that were closest to some scenes that happen in the book.

so basically, this is what i think: the movie is okay for people who haven’t read the books and are completely in love with the series (i mean, who isn’t?) and the movie is shit for people who have read the books (sorry for my foul language)

although i am sorry to say i want to see how they interpret Eldest as a movie, since they were totally off for Eragon. If they do an awesome job of sticking to the plot of the book, then i might want to watch it. I’ll just ask my other friends to watch it first ^^.

    shurtgal Says:

i agree w/ Tilly anne, the eragon movies sucks.
the movie just gives the books a bad rep and if i hadnt read the books before the movie i would never have started. if they make eldest a movie it better be a lot closer to the book

  157. 157
    Miri Says:

I think Eldest the movie is a terrible idea because Eragon-the movie, not the book-sucked! It was nothing like the book, and absolutely nothing was correct! I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD STOP AND LEAVE THE BOOKS ALONE…or redo the first movie. The first movie had bad actors, no similarities, and it made me cry! It’s only worth watching with the riff-tracks that make fun of it! And, it totally destroyed a great book!
Take heed to my wisdom, young padawans.

  158. 158
    Emu Says:

The movie was not excellent. We missed the premonitions of Solembum (Solembum altogether, actually), Angela was a little more creepy than entertaining, Arya was apparently in love with Eragon, I don’t recall the Twins being mentioned, Galbatorix referred to the egg early on as a “stone” (even though he would have been well aware it was a dragon egg), contrary to the director’s belief Saphira did NOT fly into the air and magically grow older (and find her name), Jeod was not even mentioned, Albrecht (it was him or his brother
